To make a 30” long classic cut veil – first fold the veil in half, standard bridal tulle come between 105” or 108” wide. When you folded the tulle into half and cute 34” long and cut 72” wide – mantilla veil classic gather top can not be cut more than or than less 72” wide otherwise, it won’t flow the way it should.

How to make a cathedral veil?

Using a square of the bridal tulle. A standard cathedral veil is 108 long and 108” wide. When you cutting into a square 108×108 then folded in half and if you want the bottom to look rounded, you wan to make sure the measure that the measurement to the rounded bottom. Once you have cut the bottom, you can then gather the top into 4” wide this also depending how wide your comb is. If your comb is 4 ½” you must gather it into 4 1/2. once the are done gathering the veil, you then sew in the veil into a comb.

How to make a blusher?

It’s a very formal and traditional for the bride to wear a blusher when walking on the Ariel. When making a blusher, you need to have double lay bridal tulle. Take an oval tulle and folded in half then measure the length of the veil and gather at the center depending on how full and short of the veil you like. Once you gathered the center of the veil into 4” to fit the 4” comb and sewn the veil into the comb then you will have a veil with two layers and the first layer can be worn as a blusher.

How to wear a veil?

How to wear a veil depending on your hair do. If you have your hair down, you want to insert a comb on top of the crown. If you wear an updo, and wanted the veil to be on very full, want to place a comb on top of the updo or insert a comb under hind of the updo. Note: to place the comb under hind of the updo, the comb must be no longer than 2 ½”. If you wear a half up and half down, you do need 4” comb and the veil should be about 72” wide.

How to wear a birdcage veil?

Birdcage veil can be worn several ways. If you wear an updo, pin it in the middle  back of the bead right on top of the do for a classic look. If you were your hair long, position the your fascinator on the side of where the veil is gathered and use about 3 4 bobby pins and insert one the center of the veil and the above the next to the hairline. I found that Cage veil is never secured well with comb especially a metal comb. Bobby pins will are the best.

How to make Birdcage / Russian veil?

Birdcage veil is made from a Russian net. The net come in 9” to 19” wide. Depending on how long you want it to fall. If you want it to fall past your nose, you want to go with 9”

Note: There are two sides of the veiling: finished and unfinished. You want the finished end to run across your face NOT the unfinished side.

Materials Needed:

  • 2 feet of 9” or 19” of Russian Veiling/Net
  • Plastic or metal Comb
  • Thread and Needle

I find carpet it makes very easy to cut the veil evenly. For an elbow length you will need to cut 34” long. The standard veil is 108” wide. If you do not want the veil to be too full, you can cut 72” wide.

How long is Cathedral veil?

Keeping the Comb in Place

Make sure the comb has a sufficient foundation to sink it’s teeth into. Pin your curls in place with metal bobby pins to ensure the stay of your hairstyle. Then place the comb over the curl and push the comb’s teeth underneath the metal bobby pins.
